  1. Dear Clear Channel executives.

Clear Channel’s decision to remove Howard Stern’s radio show from your network is wrong. I hope listeners will boycott Clear Channel is its many forms until you stand for freedom of speech, and not cave in to a minority special interest of supposed outraged people….where are they? I think the Stern shows ratings speak volumes about what the listeners find acceptable programming. If the listeners were not tuning in, you would have not have been profiting from the show’s ad revenues and it would have been gone long ago. You’ve certainly made enough $$$ profits over the past decade or so on this program, and now you turn your back on him, your profits, and the trust of the American people that expect broadcasters to uphold the principles found in the Bill of Rights, not just corporate profits. PS, I live in a market where we still have his program (not on your fascist network), so I did not lose my right as an adult, to choose which, if any, radio shows to tune in to.
Excerpt from Clear Channel’s own release to the media……..”Clear Channel drew a line in the sand today with regard to protecting our listeners from indecent content and Howard Stern’s show blew right through it,” said John Hogan, president and CEO of Clear Channel Radio. “It was vulgar, offensive, and insulting, not just to women and African Americans but to anyone with a sense of common decency
Can Clear Channel say they speak for all women or African Americans? Who is clear Channel to decide WHAT is considered vulgar, offensive, or insulting? Won’t the free market decide? I don’t think that your company can even speak for a majority of the women or Blacks that its claiming to “protect”. It is not Clear Channel’s job to protect children from programming, its their parents job to police their own kids media diets!!! It is defiantly not your job to protect any adult listeners that can make the determination to listen or not, and be offended or not, for themselves mearly by tuning in or NOT tuning in. I will begin an immediate boycott of Clear Channel, dump your stock, and advise my friends and family to do so as well. I also work in Television News, and will try to effort as many anti-clear channel, anti media conglomeration stories as I can.
Name withheld for fear of big corporate brother retaliation.

  3. Shutting down Club Laga in Pittsburgh, PA is one of the worst things Clear Channel could have done. This venue is widely popular among the young people in Pittsburgh and outlying cities and towns. Many artists that have performed at this venue are also disappointed in the corporation’s decision to do this. All the young people have left to do now is to rally together against Clear Channel and support a new venue that artists who have played and enjoyed playing at Club Laga would rather perform at then any other venue that Clear Channel will support. Clear Channel is not making any positive moves. Hopefully they will experience a great detriment to the corporation that will finally strike home the opinion of the people is important – not that of some big brother radio police yuppie company.

  5. Doesn’t the execs at Clear Channel wonder why there are hardly any “Infinity Sucks” websites? Because at least Infinity is willing to stand up to The F.C.C. and defend Stern. CLear Channel is a tool of The Republican Right (just like Wal-Mart). If you bad-mouth Bush (or for that matter, those hypocritical TV evangenlists), poof, you are banned from their airwaves. Luckily for Philly, Stern is still on the air. Clear Channel has virtually put Electric Factory concerts out of business as well (lots of bands also have issues with Clear Channel, and are stuck with them for concert promotions). The other day, a radio station (which is owned by Clear Channel) was on location at a computer store, had a contest that was giving away electronics. The D.J. asked me if I wanted to enter the contest. I said “NO WAY” because I would not want to deal with Clear Channel even if was for free stuff.

  9. For those of you who want to get all up on clear channel about this whole howard stern thing, keep in mind. They aired HS on less than 10 of their 1200 stations. Not that I like CC much at the moment, this is just no one of the most valid points to cling to. They have had some serious issues with other radio personalities that have also been dismissed because of bad behavior.

Also, it is their right to play what they want to play. It is not up to us to dictate to a business what they can and cannot provide.

  11. The situation concerning Stern is not surprising, nor is it a new phenomenon. I listen to a lot of radio, I do not listen to Howard Stern (I don’t really like his topics, but it is my choice to turn the dial, THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!) and I can tell you that Clear channel has ruined radio! Even before the Iraq war started these media Nazis turned a very entertaining and diverse media source into a big YAAAAAWWNNNNN. Then we went to war, and their new agenda became obvious. Since the beginning of the Iraq war they have stifled and silenced anyone who has not conformed to a pro Bush, pro-war dialogue (not saying I am anti war, that’s not the point, it’s just my observation concerning the media during the war). My point is, this company formats everything from what songs to play to how the hosts should think. We know this is true because when a few DJs and talk radio hosts expressed their own controversial opinions and feelings about the war, and the Bush administration, they found themselves searching for a new job (Howard is not the first to fall victim of the “radio Nazis”).

More and more people are realizing that our media is being manipulated and coerced into conforming to a “corporate” agenda, who has direct links to the current political party…who also has an agenda. The scary thing in this case is that this corporation in question is a MEDIA company! In other words, the people who are supposed to bring us news and give us political commentary, are regulating the “opinions” of the very individuals who are the communicators of media. This is very dangerous in a so-called “free country”, where media and the right to an opinion are the very foundation of our society. I am very glad to see Howard Stern influencing his listeners to crush the powers of clear channel by encouraging voters to eliminate the root of the evil by taking action in the voting booths this next fall.
