Species at Risk Act

From WildCanada.net:

The Species at Risk Act (SARA), Bill C-5, was passed by the House of Commons on Tuesday, June 11, 2002, by a vote of 148-85. Though the Bill remained far from perfect, conservation groups from across Canada were able to support recent amendments that strengthened habitat protection in some areas of federal jurisdiction, and provisions to allow scientists to have more say on which species are listed as endangered. Wildcanada.net is applauding the leadership shown by key backbench Members of Parliament, and the compromise reached through the Prime Minister that allowed this legislation to go on to Canada’s Senate. Send a free thank-you by fax to the Prime Minister, MP Karen Kraft Sloan, and others by visiting http://www.wildcanada.net and clicking on the endangered species icon.
