Commuting

If I have decided to take the bus to work, without fail, a bus will cross Bute on Davie while I am still on Bute, somewhere between Comox and Davie. It does not matter if I run to Davie or walk, the bus will cross before I can reach there.

If I have decided to walk to work, the bus and I will reach Davie & Bute at a mutually agreeable time. I then generally glare good-naturedly at the bus and continue on down Bute to Pacific.

  1. There’s this bus driver on the Davie route who greets every passenger without fail:

    HEELLOOOOO THERE!

And at the end of the line he yells out:

    KEEP ON SMILIN’!

It’s part of my antisocial urban personality, I realize, that I find this to be a head-clutching nightmare. But I can’t help think of the novel “The Killer Inside Me” where this guy’s annoying small talk is the cover for homicidal tendencies.
