Fear of a small planet

Brian, Elise and I went to the Granville Island Market today for lunch. It was bedlam, and I freaked. I felt claustrophobic, I was totally anxious, my chest was constricting – it was terrible. And why? well, it was totally jam-packed, to the point where it was hard to move in some places and everywhere smelled like feet, sweat, cheese and meat. And everywhere, everywhere were little kids. Sometimes attached to parents, sometimes apparently alone. Doing their random kid things (running, screaming, punching, crying, sulking, pointing, etc). There was even a child busker, some poor 6-year old whose parents (I assume) had propped her up to play in public (she wasn’t terribly good, and looked despondent). It was just awful. I couldn’t wait to get out of the market. I didn’t even end up buying my lunch there, because I was too disturbed by it all.
