  1. I strongly believe that Campbell must resign! He is always so eager to have everyone else resign–it is his turn!
The people who disagree with the resignation of Campbell are those who support drinking and driving! No-it is not a personal issue! Drinking and Driving NEVER IS!!!!!! How ignorant can people be????

  5. i think he has done enough damage to our province with all the cuts;trying to take away seniors bus passes, closing gorge hospital and many other businesses, stopping the tuition freeze, privatizing b.c. hydro, screwing us all over…..and now he has topped it all off with setting a “good example” of drunk driving. think about it… the smart thing for him to do is step down!!!

  19. Thank God for an Honest Liberal (neocon)! “I made a mistake”. Yeah, so did most voters. Another lie to add to the “tax cuts will pay for themselves”, “tax cuts for the middle and poor”, and “our education system will be second from none”. The last one means that we will be second from the bottom. And speaking of “bottom”, today he rallied a roomfull of truckloggers (who were enjoying a taxpayer-subsidized lunch), implying that he had more employee-bashing to do in order to complete his task. Well, maybe he should start getting the province to sally up the $20000 I’ve lost as a result of a drunk driver nailing my car in a head-on, 20 years ago, or the two drunks who totaled my subsequent vehicles for another personal loss of $25000. The only way this guy will be truly sorry is when he is head-on’d by a drunk and has a fractured spine. Then he will enjoy the attention that he might get from the physio in the public-funded health care system. I say “might get” because she/he has over 50 other patients to look after. So, Gord, Cheers!!!

  27. Dear GORD, I feel no sympathy for you, you show no sympathy for others when you are ripping up contracts and destroying families lives by getting rid of all the good paying jobs in the province. You have done so much damage to so many people in BC already without having to drive drunk, you driving drunk was just another way to hurt british columbians even more. You are not a leader of any sort Gord, Go have another! CHEERS
P.S DO US ALL A FAVOR AND RESIGN, IT IS THE BEST THING U CAN DO FOR THE PROVINCE NOW

  29. By not resigning Gordon Campbell, you show that you are only interested in your own sanctimonious hide and not the BC people whom you have purported to care so much about. It is just more of the same old garbage and lies we have always been fed and Gordon crying “WOLF”! Actions speak louder than words in my humble opinion and your changes of heart, revised opinions and learned lessons are not to be trusted. Your priorities are very twisted.

  31. Gordon Campbell is very sorry – sorry he got caught.

Imagine, in a world where people get tossed because of indiscrete emails, this asshole says he’ll stay on. There should be automatic dismissal.

And really, nobody voted the Liberals in because of their policies. They voted the NDP out.

Next time, check the box that says “None of the above.

  33. ok folks, campbell is a good guy, he’s just a little confused. his marriage is in the tank, he’s known for his alchoholic antics, and he has no charisma, politically or personally, whatsoever. he doesn’t desrve to be where he is and he knows it. the guy is useless, not to mention spineless. he’s just logged his hours and been with the party longer than other potential candidates. basically he’s a good guy, good enough to drink to the point of utter inebriation and get behind the wheel of a rented car in a foreign country! why was e smiling in the mugshots?

  41. I think you’re all a bunch of idiots, why would he have to resign for driking and driving? He was on vacation, leave the man alone you pathetic nay-sayers who have nothing better to do with their time than read crappy newspapers such as The Vancouver Sun, The Province and The National Post and comment on the biased news that’s fed to your bird like mouths. He made a mistake, he f*cked up, simple. He admited his mistake, unlike the ndp when they blew how many billions of dollars on ferries? That’s people’s jobs peoples lives. In some countries they would’ve been killed for doing something like that. And so do you really think other leaders (or ex leaders) like Joe Clark are any better, or Hedy Fry? Comeon people grow up a little bit, take resposibility for yourselves and don’t worry about someone else’s life to the point where you worry yourself to death. One of the big problems with most (not all) of you is that you think your politicians are going to solve your answers and lead us through to a better more idealistic world. They’re not! They’re human! And as greedy, jealous and malice as the rest of us. So for God sake folks, lead your own life, play an active roll in your community instead of bitching about change. Get a damn job! and most of all go and vote! Because even if you think that it isn’t going to accomplish anything like the majority of you idiots think, of course it’s not if you don’t do it. You all should be ashamed of yourselves, those of you who blame the shortcoming’s of your own lives on someone else.

I’m leaving with a quote “If you assume that there’s no hope, you guarantee there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, there are opportunities to change things.” – Noam Chomsky

Anyone who agree’s with any of what I’ve said I’d love to hear from you. And anyone who disagrees, I’d also like to hear from you. Just not as much. 😉

  43. I don’t think gordan campbell should resign. Yea yea he’s a role model but don’t you think everyone should have a chance to have some fun? He was on vacation!!! Would you rather he was on some business trip? Here’s three reasons why he shouldn’t
    1. He was on vacation
    2. He’s a human, you know like you and I?
    3. He didn’t hurt anyone
now don’t start on the “but he could of hit someone” the fact is he didn’t. That’s just my opinion.

  45. Of course gordon campbell should resign, yet the likelyhood of this is slim. This is just an example of his arrogance and utter disregard for the public at large.I have never experienced another political party so wrapped up in their own fiscal policies yet when these fantasies prove to fail miserably they still shift the blame to the N.D.P. This government shows a horrendous and childish inability to take any responsibility for their actions.and to people who have commended Gordon on being honest ,he hasn’t offered us anything that would not have become public knowledge anyways.to Gordon Campbell-your time of reckoning has come asshole.

  47. my personal opinion on this situation is that he should resign. i dont have a problem with him getting totally wasted on his vacation. i do have a problem with him getting behind the wheel like many other people have stated. i dont see why he can afford to go on a nice vacation and go out and drink, but he cant call a taxi? i think this whole thing is very embarissing and that if he wants to show responsiblity he should step down.

  49. I agree with those who state the obvious. Campbell broke the law. He is in a position of public trust. The next step is to shut up and take the consequences of his actions. Be honourable. Don’t point fingers and blame his father, the weather, or anyone else. As for the politics, I live in dismay at the choices for potential candidates for any current party. Face it BC, we are struggling against a closed system where one incompetent, arrogant, or unethical posterboy follows another into power. I am still reeling from the unanimous support Campbell has from his party. Here we are telling the kids not to drink and drive while the so-called “minister of education” -there’s a laugh- is up there preaching about it being an error in judgement. Most crimes are. Brilliant. We need a real government that is not making decisions strung to foreign funding, money-grubbing, or political climbing. (Do a little research into who owns the largest private school company in America, and note how public education is doomed in this province. Who is going to benefit here? What about the changes to the labour laws? How do you feel about extending the regular time paid working hours to ten from eight? Who can benefit from that? How about that private health care system in the U.S.? Care to live in debt for the rest of your life if someone gets sick?)
We need someone to present us with an alternative which will be best for the interest of British Columbia, not some self-serving clique like those that first ruled when this country was being created. We are doomed to become a third world economy if we don’t get some good leaders to make some good decisions and fast. Let’s not get caught up in cyclic scab picking of blame, for some eyes will never open. Lets scrape this bunch off our shoes and get on with it -and hope for some honour and dignity to arise in our political realm. What is wrong with looking out for ourselves and our kids and our elderly? Most cultures around the world do. Until recently our education system was rated fourth in the world, our medical system admired globally, and our social structure provided help for those who were unable. Where is our tax money going?
The “get a job you bum” attitude does not address the real world. What of those who are sick, disabled, or in transition? Should they be punished because a low percentage ride free. Let’s say we do cut off all of the “freeloaders.” If they are taking the system for a ride, don’t you think that as an alternative to getting a job- which is not so easy today- they may turn to crime? Call me nuts, but I would rather see a few take advantage of the system than providing them job opportunities in a prison. Remember debtor’s prisons in the industrial revolution? Maybe we could re-introduce workhouses too…
Most people don’t know that the entire funding for your kid in the public education system from k-12 is about the same that it costs to keep an inmate for one year. There is a balance that should make you shudder.
Since the economy is the exchange of goods and services, how is it possible that all of the slashed jobs and newly poor in this province will contribute? Doesn’t it make sense to keep people working? During the depression, the Americans hired thousands to do a variety of “superficial” jobs in order to start the economy. The community where I live in Northern BC has been devastated by the cuts to so called “usless jobs” so now there is an horrid lack of economic activity and infrastructure which kept this community going in managing and operating resource based industries. Now there will be few regulatory controls on these resources and the rape of the land may proceed unchecked. Some of the locals seemed to get a kick about the educated, white collar workers getting shafted, and seem to forget that those incomes keep the community businesses alive. Well B.C. this is a canary in a coal mine. Before Christmas I drove around town counting the for-sale signs and in a town of seven hundred, fifty houses were for sale. Mine included. I still have my job, but who knows for how long. I am not a bum. I have lived here for ten years and would continue to stay if I could see any hope.
We seem to have become a province where compassion for the citizens has been overpowered by vindictiveness. Gee that works…look at what used to be Yugoslavia… makes you want to just go bash all them… (fill in your opposition here).
Our mla-Shirley Bond won’t even come into our community for a public meeting. She comes in unannounced -except to her little clique of supporters, and makes no effort to be available to anyone else. That makes me feel represented?
We need to make the politicians completely accountable. Give them reasonable wages and travel, and do not allow any more elitist behaviour. These people are supposed to work for us. Remember Democracy?
If you have made it to this point I thank you for your attention and patience. If I have helped you understand anything here, or inspired you to look a little deeper, I hope you will find it in yourself to try to help create a better government for us all. This was a bit of a rant, but I needed to get it off my chest. I am very tired of poor conduct. The balance and reason must be restored.

  63. Campbell, your broke the contract that you promised to uphold. Thanks to you, the worst thing imaginable now becomes a reality for many BC families. You have no sympathy for other people so I will have no sympathy for you. The provincial election in Ontario is a foreshadow of what is to come in 2005. Hiding behind your RCMP cronies will only momentarily shield you from the wrath of the people you have wronged. Just wait, though we cannot beat you or even spit at you, at least we can vote against you in 2005 to see how it will be like to lose you job. Rest in Hell asshole.

  67. Gordon Campbell needs to resign. He is a piece of garbage. I am speaking for the young drivers of British Columbia. He is putting more unsafe teens on the road by only letting them have one passenger. Also designated drivers can only drive one person. This is a fucking outrage, this piece of garbage needs to be shit on by all British Columbia.

  73. SUPPORT HEU Hospital Emplyoees Union as we may go on strike in April 2004. Our contract if up and the lay offs the BcLiberals are doing are to our union are horrible. We deserve a decent wage for what kind of job we have to do. But now the BCliberals want to cut our jobs and give us less pay. There isn’t a day that goes by when i feel upset inside about how the BCliberals disrespect the health care workers in this province. Just remember we take care of your grandparents if they are ill and we do it with honour and respect. Basically the Bcliberals are privitizing all aspects of the health care field. Our union is totally against as are all British Columbians.
i hope most people agree with me
    thanks
