I’m becoming pretty-convinced that I’m fairly red-gree colourblind. I was using a CMS today (not my own), that used red & green ‘lights’ to say whether or not to publish something. I couldn’t really tell which was which. So I decided to take a test. As I suspected, I consistently responded to the test as someone who has red/green colourblindness would. Not fully, as some I still saw as a ‘normal’ person would, but I certainly had trouble discerning the appropriate numeral.
So this thing, which I have suspected, has totally thrown me for a loop when confronted with this evidence. How could I ever judge design from now on, as clearly, I’m seeing things differently than “normal” people do. This also might explain why (this site being an exception) I never use green or red in anything, nor do I ‘like’ those colours. I wonder if this partially explains why I dislike christmas so much? All those reds & greens straining my eyes, and all that.
We are launching a new site and we have gone for a red and green logo ….. on examining the hoardings at football matches on the TV I noticed most of them are white text on red back grounds ..
even for brands that are not normally white on red…. can any one explain this or explain why very few globally recognised brands are Red/Green
send me responses at mark@carpartners.co.uk I imagine that they know % of viewers are red green color blind… any comments?
