RIP Netscape

AOL has laid off the remaining Netscape Employees, killing Netscape. They’ve even apparently removed the logos from the building.

Mozilla vows to plow on, through the volunteer program. What does this mean? I’m not sure exactly, at this point. It appears to leave Windows users with only Opera as a choice for a browser under active development. I have high hopes that Mozilla will endure to continue to innovate and refine, but I’m skeptical.

For more info, troll the blogosphere. Zeldman would be a good place to start.

Update: Perhaps there is reason to still believe in Mozilla: Behold the brand new Mozilla Foundation webpage.

  1. I’m starting to think that Konquerer is going to be making waves in the near future. It’s really small and fast, Apple picked it for their Safari Browser.
