I am a complete fucking moron

So remember how I complained that Dell hadn’t included my wireless card? Well, I’m a total moron, and GS was (semi) right. Dell had included it, see. It’s just that it’s not a PCMCIA (or whatever that acronym should be), it’s an MPCI card (where my guess is that M stands for Mini), inside the laptop. I perhaps should have wondered why my supposedly wireless-less laptop was discovering wireless networks, but I chalked it up to oddity with the drivers installed. Of course, it could never connect, because all the networks around me, and most importantly, my own, are locked down through WEP.

So they did have wireless all along. And now Dell has just sent my ‘replacement’ wireless card for the one that was missing (which is what tipped me off because I opened the box and I was all like ‘what the fuck is this? Did they send the wrong thing now?’ but no, they were right, it’s just that between the time I placed the order and the time they shipped it, Dell must have moved from PCMCIA cards (because my quote clearly states that) to these MPCI cards.

So of course now, do I keep this spare, because of Dell’s shitty tech support not being able to tell me that I already had my card, so they should suffer an equal expense (2.5 hours of my time on the phone should equal 2 cards), or do I be good and send them back? Of course, now that I’ve written this, perhaps I should send them back, on the odd chance Dell legal reads my site, and decides to come after me….
