Happy Birthday Pencilneck!

Today is the First Birthday of my company, Pencilneck Software. It’s in many ways hard to believe that already an entire year has gone by — it feels like just yesterday Jeff and I were sitting upstairs at our old workplace, figuring out exactly what it is we wanted to do. On the other hand, it seems like forever ago — it’s hard to remember what it was like not working with Jeff here.

In this year, so much has happened, and I’ve grown so much — as a developer, certainly, but more importantly for this particular task, as a businessman, manager & architect. The sheer amount of knowledge I’ve gained about how to run a business, run a project, work on schedules, work efficiently, when I think about where I was when I started (and I wasn’t a slouch, just not nearly as qualified as I am now), compared to what I know and can do, it’s just amazing.

And because of this growth, our company has grown fantastically. This month, we’ll probably do about 10 to 20 times more business than we did a year ago this month. And the crazy thing is, we felt ‘full’ last March, and we feel ‘full’ this March, but the volume of work being accomplished is so much more. Who knows how much more can actually be finished in a month? And now that we’ve grown from just Jeff and I to Jeff, Myself and 4 contractors, our rate of growth and productivity seems to just keep going up. Combined with the recent release of The Pencilcase CMS version 3, we’re slated to continue on this growth pattern.

So excuse me for tooting my own horn, but I’m feeling pretty pleased this morning…
