I’ve been thinking about what the NHL should do to Todd Bertuzzi. As a Canuck fan, I obviously want as little as possible to happen to him. However, in the larger picture, as a fan of the game, I really feel that Bertuzzi should be suspended for at least the remainder of the current season, including any and all playoff games the Canucks might participate in. His attack was brutal and vicious, and simply cannot be tolerated to occur in hockey. If his suspension included some or all of next season too, I don’t think that would be unjustified.
That being said, I hope that no charges are laid as a result of the police investigation. Or perhaps they should, but definitely no jail time should result. Hordes of community service, sure. But I would hope the Canucks organization would require some sort of restitution too, perhaps in community service.
