Fashion Advice needed

So I now wear a belt every day. I never used to. Indeed, until about 2 years ago, I didn’t even own a belt. Then I started wearing one; not sure why I did, but I did and now I wear one every day.

Of course, these days, it’s to hold my oversize pants up. See, I’m now about 2 waist-sizes smaller than I was 6 months ago, so all my pants are rather large, and quite literally fall off of me if I do not wear a belt. But now I have a particular quandry: The belts (I have two; one of which I bought, the other I inherited from Day) in question used to fit me well, in that I’d hook them up at one of the outermost holes, so not much belt hung past the buckle. But now, on each of them (one of them, in fact, I’ve already punched extra holes into), I’m now hooking them up on the innermost hole. Which means there’s a hole lot of belt flapping about on my right side. Sadly, however, there’s not quite enough to reach all the way around the next belt loop. So it just flops down.

So my question is: should I tuck in back into itself? Should I simply cut off the extra piece now? Tuck the ends into my pants? What is the proper way of wearing a belt that is too long past the buckle, but not long enough to be caught by one’s belt loop? Are there ‘belt clips’ that can be purchased for this reason?

  1. I have the same problem. I have done nothing about it. Of course I’m not exactly someone to answers a ‘fashion’ question 😉

  2. I have the same damned problem, but with the strap on my hat. I’m sure I look like a dweeb. But I can’t find another baseball cap style hat that I can bear wearing. Usually they are all too small, or I don’t want to advertise whatever the logo is on it.

  4. Okay, but what about the fact that you have the extra hanging out the right side?! My excess hangs out the left? Am I a freak of nature?

I am refering to the belt flap, not the waist fat.

  6. In response to Lauren:

I’ve heard somewhere that women are suppossed to wear their belts the opposite way from men. Also, I’m told that on womens clothes buttons should be on the left, while on men’s clothes, buttons are on the right with holes on the left. Is that true, or am I just gullible?
